Finally Rhode Island has done something to be really proud of. This week, the RI state government passed funding for an offshore wind project that will greatly affect the area. Im not talking any small wind project either. The new project estimated at creating 385 million megawatts per year will fuel 15% of the states energy.
What is a little shady is that adminstrators took the lowest bidder (of course) but one with exactly nil experience in the area of offshore wind projects and nearly nil in land-based wind projects. The company, Deepwater Wind, based out of New Jersey was the unanimous pick in a recent bidding.
Let this be a lesson to you Ted Kennedy and all you Cape-ites that think the Cape Wind Project will diminish your multi-million dollar views. If Massachusetts will let RI be first on something (seeing as we are the unwanted red headed step child of Massachusetts) than good job RI. However, hopefully this pushes Massachusetts to be first and go ahead on the Cape Wind Project. Ted, I know it will be tough having your morning soy latte with skim milk overlooking your water front without being absolutely ruined by that little glimmer of spinning environmental hope in the far, far, far distance. I feel ya Ted.
